Symptom: Chronic Sore Throat

Sore throat is most commonly an acute process that is the result of an infection such as the common cold or infectious mononucleosis. However, some chronic conditions like gastroesophageal reflux, some cancers, chronic tonsillitis, and other conditions can lead to sore throat symptoms that last longer and persist (chronic sore throat). Symptoms that might be present, depending on the cause of the chronic sore throat, include hoarseness, feeling of a lump in the throat, mouth sores, difficulty swallowing, or regurgitation of food or stomach contents. Other possible accompanying symptoms are heartburn, fever, fatigue, and redness of the mouth or throat.
