High fever is a prominent symptom in children with Kawasaki disease. The fever is persistent and lasts for at least five days. Nonspecific symptoms can precede or accompany the fever, including fussiness, nausea, vomiting, runny nose, cough, diarrhea, joint pain, abdominal pain, and decreased intake of food and liquids. Other signs and symptoms can include redness of the eyes, gum ulcers, cracked lips, reddening of the lining of the mouth, inflamed ("strawberry") tongue, and rash over the hands and feet. There can be swelling around the areas of the rash. Enlargement of the lymph nodes of the neck can be present.
